Thank God for Rough Men

Rough Men

“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”
George Orwell

Mr. Orwell was wise and prescient in many ways and truer words than those above were never written.

The liberal media has it’s panties in a collective bunch over the actions of a brave young marine who did just such violence – on their behalf I might add – to an enemy combatant, to great his credit. Here is a young man who deserves a medal being called a war criminal instead. The Liberals are really in their element and it’s 1971 all over again. At least, they obviously wish it were. These people are so nostalgic for the good old days of the anti-war 70’s that they just can’t stop trying to relive them.

Is it just me, or is there some obvious glee peaking out from behind their feigned horror? You can see it in their faces and hear it in their voices – they believe they have found a new stick they can use to beat the American military and life is good again. After all, nobody cares about Abu Ghraib anymore and an actual shooting is so much scarier than panties on the head. At least it is for those who have never been closer to a firearm than their TV set. (I would guess that they have all had panties on their head at one time or another.)

Fortunately for the sake of their own sanity (if there is such a think as a sane liberal) there is no need in Liberal Land for any intellectual or moral consistency. Wasn’t it only a few weeks ago that these same people were arguing with equal intensity that actions much less heroic than this were worthy of a medal? And how dare any one who had not faced combat even think to question the heroic actions of a true fighting man!

How were those Medal-Worthy actions less heroic than the current case? Let me count the ways:

1) In Vietnam, it was clear that the enemy was unarmed. In Iraq, it was not.

2) In Vietnam, it was obvious that the unit was in no further danger from this enemy soldier. In Iraq, it was not clear at all.

3) In Iraq, members of the same unit had been killed in nearly identical circumstances, not so in Vietnam

4) In Vietnam, the fleeing, unarmed teenager was shot in the back. In Iraq, the potentially deceitful enemy was acting just like other enemy soldiers who had killed American Marines only days before.

I could go on but I think the point is made.

In a way I am actually glad that the intelligent, sensitive and nuanced Blue Staters have decided to beat this drum – especially since we have such clear and unambiguous evidence of the brave Marine’s actions. And this time the film is real, not reenacted. How could any red-blooded American actually be glad about the latest Liberal smear attack on our military? Simple, the more these guys let the American people see who they really are, the less relevant they will become. By the way, isn’t it nice to see what they really mean when they say they support our troops? What they really mean is they support all troops who are anti-war Democrats.

In true Liberal fashion, they spent all of about 15 seconds feeling about why they lost the election. I almost wrote “thinking about why they lost” but caught myself. Liberals don’t think, they feel. Anyway, once they had found their convenient excuse for why the loss was not their fault it took only a couple of days before they were back to doing exactly the kind of things that make most Americans sick to our stomachs. Incidentally, in case you haven’t heard, they lost because a bunch of stupid, illiterate, (gasp) God-fearing dolts were tricked into voting for George W. Bush. Those devious Republican dirty tricksters did it again! This is what passes for soul searching and reflection in Liberal Land.

But I digress. My purpose in writing this Blog was to honor the actions of one brave Marine. Full disclosure, I have never served in the military. I am, however, an intelligent and reasonable man. I am, therefore, able to visualize the situation in its full context and project what I, as a reasonable man, would do in like circumstances. Knowing that the enemy in Fallujah made it a practice of waving the white flag only to open fire and of acting dead only to fire on, or blow up Americans, and knowing that only days before this Marine's friend and comrade had been killed in just such a way, I would have blown the guy’s head off. In fact, I think our Marine showed admirable restraint in only firing a couple of shots. It must be the training.

I have a lot of faith in our military, even in this PC world, so I know that the marine in question will be found innocent. It is a shame that he will not get his medal for his quick thinking under tremendous stress. No doubt this will cause paroxysms of angst and outrage among our Liberal friends. I look forward to the oceans or words that are sure to be flood from the Mareen Dowds of the Blue State Press decrying the injustice to the enemy soldier and what this means to American stature in the world community.

Keep it up guys, I like winning elections.
